Prostitution is the act of selling sex. Should be distinguished from forced prostitution, which is a form of slavery.

Etymology and use of the word[edit]

The term "prostitution" comes from Latin prostituere which literally means to expose something for sale. The word can be used figuratively to refer to "selling oneself" (wage slavery).
