FAQ

Acronym: (GNU/Generic) Internet File Transfer

  1. What is the giFT project?

giFT is a file sharing daemon that runs in the background and connects your system to multiple sharing networks. A lightweight protocol is used by clients to communicate with the giFT process, allowing the protocol code to be completely abstracted from the user interface.

Connects to the following networks:

  1. OpenFT
  2. FastTrack (KaZaA)
  3. Gnutella

There are already several GUI front-ends available for giFT for use under both Windows and Linux.

About the acronym: giFT used to mean 'generic interface to FastTrack' or 'giFT isn't FastTrack', and then later was renamed to GNU Internet File Transfer and then to its current incarnation.
