Arguments[edit]

  • animal grazing causes soil compaction
  • animal grazing causes soil acidification
  • animal grazing causes erosion and topsoil loss
  • animal grazing creates a bias for predominance of nuisance plant and animal species
  • grazing animals provide an environment for parasites, which can then spread to humans
  • fencing of land for grazing impedes natural animal movements, and affects biosystems
  • All of the effects stated in these arguments against animal grazing are increasingly problematic as the number of animals increases, to the point of ecological disaster

Objections[edit]

  • soil compaction would be eliminated if we use native animals
  • Nitrogen in animal feces is a catalyst to assist the breakdown of plant materials; provides organic nutrients and organic matter, and micronutrients for organisms such as fungal mycorrhiza, (which aid plants in absorbing nutrients); in short, it is fertilizer.
  • All of the effects stated in the arguments against animal grazing are decreasingly problematic as the number of animals decreases, to a point where they are no greater than in natural ecosystems, in the practices used by nomadic herding cultures
