Pamlico Ravine

The Pamlico Ravine is referred to geographically by some of its natives as the region loosely surrounding the Tar River and Pamlico River territories in and around Beaufort County, in eastern North Carolina, a state on the eastern edge of the United States. The term "ravine" is a misnomer, as the area lies in the state's coastal plain, consisting largely of flat wooded areas interlaced with various navigable and non-navigable waterways stemming from the rivers mentioned above. The term as defined above is most frequently used when spoken out of an attitude of novelty and in sublime contexts, being germinally a term of endearment for the Pamlico River. [unverified]

The term also stems from a more abstract and less widespread definition arising from the microsocial effect of the area in historical terms on and pertaining to the questionable and socially antithetical endeavors of an eclectic group of men growing up in the 1980s and 1990s and forming as a result of almost two decades of compatriotism and untoward behavior. Members of this inconspicuous group have been vaguely referred to in the local paper, the Washington Daily News, to be constituents of The Ne'er Do Well club [1] — a term falling short of the group's purported ignominy. This group, hailing itself by various names including "Team PAMRAV" may be responsible for the dissemination of the term Pamlico Ravine, as its members purportedly coined the phrase.[2] The practices of this group have been described as an alternation between loafing and adventure, though they are said to have bordered on being unlawful, and were at times subject to investigation by city officials and police. The group is said to have held negative opinions on alternative lifestyles, ethnic cultures, modern society and feeble dealings in general. Those purporting to hail from the Pamlico Ravine have, however, appeared to endorse fishing, hunting, machismo, combativeness, boistrousness and the pursuit of goals based on old-fashioned principals (including but not limited to prejudice, patriotism, states' rights and agriculture). The identities and whereabouts of various members this group are uncertain. The terms Pamlico Ravine and Team PAMRAV have appeared in comments placed on a multitude of online profile sites of the Facebook and MySpace varieties, although attempts to ascertain these commentors' sources seldom lead to the discovery of any particulars of the group in question.
