Nabeel Hussain was found not guilty of all charges in connection to the 2006 transatlantic aircraft plot in the United Kingdom in his first trial. He was one of the nineteen whose accounts were frozen by the Bank of England.[1] In a second trial, he was charged with "preparing for terrorism by meeting Ali (Abdullah Ahmed Ali) twice in July 2006"[2] and found guilty
He and his brothers Mehran Hussain and Umair Hussain were arrested without charge. His brothers were eventually charged, but only on the basis of charges against him, which he was later found not guilty of. The state brought new, related charges,
He was found not guilty in the first trial in 2006, with his lawyer making the case that he was only an innocent bystander.[3] His second trial was as close to double jeopardy (WP) as the state can come without anyone calling them on it.
The charges for the second case sound like the Constable Savage (racist cop) sketch from Not the nine O'clock News:[4] he was charged with "preparing for terrorism by meeting Ali twice in July 2006",[2] and of "possessing several items namely a will, mobile phones and a £25,000 loan application for use in terrorism". With the prosecution given the power of a laws that make it a crime to associate with others or possess a cell phone, it is hardly surprising that he was found guilty and given eight years.[5]
Prosecution cannot even make up its own assertions, they just reverse what the defence says, Right-wing Telegraph parrots them. BBC article says defense asked Nabeel if he was radicalized, he says no, then two years later, the Telegraph calls him "radicalized" in its headline and lead paragraph [2]
