The Korean War was a conflict between the communist North Korea and the democratic South Korea, beginning with the North Korean invasion of South Korea in 1950. North Korea was backed by the Soviet Union and China, while South Korea was backed by the United States and United Nations. It became a proxy war between the East and West and ended in 1953.
