The Empire of Japan was a Japanese state that existed from 1868 to 1945. It is known for being the major opponent of the United States in the Pacific War. At its height during World War II, the Empire of Japan occupied Cambodia, the coastal areas of China, Indonesia, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Laos, Malaysia, Manchuria, Myanmar, most of the western Pacific islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
