social sex

Jump to: navigation, search

Social sex, or nonreproductive sex, is sex that has no immediate reproductory purpose. Thusly, sex with usage of preventives, homosexual relations, and other kinds of sex for pleasure purposes only. Social sex occurs in many advanced species, mammals and birds. The most notable species are humans, penguins, flamingos, dolphins, Japanese macaques and particilarily the bonobo.

Interestingly, the bonobo (not the chimp) is thought by most anthropologists to be the closest human relative. Troops are matriarchal as are most traditional human societies, and females leave their home troop to join another. When they do, they are forced to sexually submit to every member of the troop, male and female, before they can be accepted. [unverified]
