Transportation is the movement of people, goods, signals and information. The term is derived from the Latin trans ("across") and portare ("to carry").

Modes of transportation include trains, planes and automobiles. Incidentally Planes, Trains and Automobiles was also the title of a film starring Steve Martin and John Candy.
