Spam is a type of canned meat. However, it is usually used to refer to email solocitations, internet ads, or any type on online advertising that is annoying and obtrusive. This use of the word was based on the Monty Python sketch "Spamalot" in which the word "spam" was repeated continuously throughout the entire sketch, becoming very annoying.
