On [[March 7]], [[2002]] a letter was sent out about a meeting coming up that would launch the Not in Our Name (NION) project.  The meeting took place on [[March 23]], [[2002]] in St. Marys Church in Harlem, in New York City.  The meeting adopted proposals from the letter.  One of these proposals was for a ''Pledge of Resistance'' which was written in April 2002, and distributed at the [[ANSWER]]-organized [[April 20]], [[2002]] protest in Washington D.C.

On [[May 12]], [[2002]], the first national anti-war concert since [[9/11]] took place with "Not In Our Name" as it's theme.  The show was a benefit for the Artists Network of [[Refuse and Resist]].  Refuse and Resist was one of the initiators of NION.
