Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950), better known as George Orwell, English author; work marked by a profound consciousness of social injustice, an intense dislike of totalitarianism, and a passion for clarity in language. He became increasingly disenchanted with communism after the events of the Spanish Civil War, when Anarchist forces were relatively disadvantaged, and arguably more, by the communists
