1837 — France: Paul Robin lives, in Toulon (VAr). Wrongfully forgotten libertarian educator whose legacy influences the educators Sebastien Faure & Francisco Ferrer. [1]

1849 — Germany: during this month Mikhail Bakunin moves to Dresden. Next month a popular uprising breaks out. Funny how that works with him. [2]

1860 — Pony Express service begins, between Sacramento, California & St. Joseph, Missouri. An ad in California newspaper read: "Wanted. Young, skinny, wiry fellows. Not over 18. Must be expert riders. Willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred."

1917 — United States of America: American navy sailors in Kansas City destroy the Industrial Workers of the World building.

1948 — Korea: Cheju April 3rd Massacre. One of the darkest yet least-known chapters of postwar Asian history — the horrific genocide of 30,000 innocent civilians on Cheju-do between 1948 & 1949. In the space of one year, fully 10% of the island’s total population of 300,000 was massacred — literal Roman decimation. Privately the governor of Cheju told American intelligence at the time that 60,000 were killed. This mass murder, in the guise of an anti-Communist civil war, was undertaken by the South Korean army, the Cheju-do police, & the US military. Oddly, this Cold War holocaust is not in American text books or history books.

1950 — Radical composer Kurt Weill dies, New York City.

1954 — United Auto Workers Local 833 strikes the Kohler bathroom fixtures company in Kohler, Wisconsin. [3]

1959 — United States of America: The Chicago Post Office, having already seized several hundred copies of "Big Table 1," today sends a copy to the Director of the Division of Postal Services for a ruling as to its mailability. A hearing is eventually set for June 4, 1959, in Washington, D. C.

1963 — Achille Daude dies. Trade union activist, anarchist, &, especially, an advocate of cooperatives. [4]

1963 — England: 700 in Budget Day protest against taxation for nuclear arms, House of Commons, London.

1969 — United States of America: 7,000 Illinois National Guardsmen mobilized to quell a wave of shooting, stoning & looting that broke out in black neighborhoods of Chicago in response to police brutality.

1973 — "But that isn’t as serious as some of the other things that have happened in the Rouge area in the past. Six men in a basic oxygen plant were killed, & there wasn’t enough left of those men to put in a decent shopping bag." — Wesley Johns, statement to a People’s Court convened by the Motor City Labor League, April 3, 1973

1974 — United States of America: Family Values?: Patty Hearst announces in a taped message to a Berkeley radio station that she has joined her kidnappers, the Symbionese Liberation Army.

1975 — Bobby Fischer stripped of his world chess title for refusing to defend his title & drink the blood of his vanquished opponent.

1985 — United States of America: Beloved & Respected Comrade Leader Rightwing- sweetheart B-1 Bob Dornan (R-CA.) reveals the "best compliment" he has yet received on the House of Representatives floor — Henry Hyde (R-IL.) had said to him, "If we were Indians in the Plains Wars & you were a cavalry trooper, we would kill you just to drink your blood." This, explains Bob, was how true warriors showed respect. [5]

2000 — Sacred substances psychonaut & futurist shaman, Terence McKenna (1946—2000) dies. Author of "Magic Mushroom Growers Guide," advocate of the "Stoned Ape" theory of human evolution. [6]
