Gottfried Benn (born 1886 May 2 in Mansfeld) was one of the most influential German writers of the mid-20th century and an expressionist. Degeneracy and medical aspects of decay are important allusions in his early poems, many found in Morgue and andere Gedichte ("Morgue and Other Poems," 1912).
