In many countries, but especially in the United States of America, one of the historic ways to oppose the government policies is to refuse to pay one's income tax, some other countries usually use things like water charges, etc. It must be noted that in some countries, such as USA, this form of protest is technically protected by the constitution; in fact however, people are likely to be arrested and imprisoned for the refusal to pay their tax.

This remains one of the favourite forms of protest amongst some anarcho-individualists and anarcho-pacifists, since it requires only the courage of an individual to take the stand.
