Acronym: Network News Transfer Protocol
The protocol used to upload or download a Usenet post. Replaced UUCP. Used in both server-server as well as client-server connections.
The standard port for NNTP servers is 119/tcp ("nntp"). The standard port for NNTP over SSL is 563/tcp or 563/udp ("snntp" aka "nntps")
