Sir Isaac Newton was a physicist, best known for the formulation of the laws of gravity. Of course the fact that apples didn't fall upwards was known before him, but Newtonian physics stated that the reason why the Moon stays in the orbit around the Earth and the Earth around the Sun is exactly the same as what makes fruit fall on the ground.
