animal products exploit large portion of the land

Arguments[edit]

  1. In the US, over 90% of total agricultural land is used to grow food for animals
  2. Out of a total of 19 Million Hectares of Agricultural Land in the UK, 15.3 Million Hectares (more than 80%) are used directly or indirectly for meat and dairy production.
  3. Almost half of Australia’s ecological footprint is caused by producing exports of products from sheep and beef cattle grazing. The total export-related footprint amounts to about 110 million hectares, which is more than the combined area of NSW and Victoria. Daly (1993) paraphrased this strategy as entering into an environmental ‘race to the bottom’.

Objections[edit]

1. The reason so much land is used to grow food for animals, is because so many people eat animal products. If everyone was vegetarian, the same land would be used to grow plants for a plant based diet.
