Talk:Katrina hurricane disaster
I am an independent film maker who was in both Mississippi and Louisiana covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Initially I was working "freelance" for ABC New York and negotiated a deal with their producers to own the rights to all of the footage I shot in exchange they were granted "a one time usage of whatever footage I shot that they deemed newsworthy". Some of my footage was also used and aired on the BBC per a separate agreement.
My dilemma now is that I have some never viewed amazing video clips, soundbites, and stories that I am currently editing into a "real life" documentary about how all this came to be, the real events that were happening in New Orleans, and mainly St. Bernard Parish (which to this date 8/4/06 is still totally destroyed), and the true stories of the mishaps by local, state, and federal agencies during this time of crisis. I'm asking for help, guidance, funds, in obtaining "soundbites" from President Bush, Governor Blanco, and Mayor Ray Nagin as well as 3D or 2D animations or satellite footage of Katrina as it made landfall.
The message here is that after all the glitz and attention that the Mass media focuses on and shoves down middle America's throats dissappears the local folks are left dealing with the reality of the destruction. People will believe that New Orleans was destroyed but, the truth is that was only in namesake so that the average american would give a rats ass, it was spared (80% of the city could have been re-opened within a week if local and national governments had done their jobs) and 15 miles southeast of the "Crescent City" small communities were totally destroyed!!!!!!!
Any suggestions, comments, information, etc. would be appreciated.
