Talk:Invasion of Panama
It's funny how things turn out. When I first came to this article on WP, it had only the US rationale for invasion in it, a few death statistics, some of the Aftermath stuff; not very balanced. I thought a timeline would give a chance to introduce some of the Sand Flea operation's harassment tactics, the Hard Chargers, the attempted coup against Noriega, the cocaine that turned into tamales, etc. I misjudged the solidity of the legacy of the CIA-cocaine connection somewhat, but on the whole, I think it would not stay up at WP even now. The timeline may well have been a mistake: US army types started coming to the article in droves, not wanting to be left out of the Kilroy was Here stampede. I call it the Wall of Shame, but of course they see it differently. I left the article in disgust and some shame of my own.
A year or so later, I would like to think that my efforts may not have been in vain after all. The expanded content about the assassination attempt may well have attracted some more editors; at any rate, they came and added the material about Reagan and Iran-Contra and thus paved the way for the CIA-cocaine material too, at least here.Anarchangel 06:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
