Stasi

Stasi was the official secret police of East Germany. It was loyal to the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, which in turn was loyal to Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
It infiltrated almost every aspect of life, and is one of the most extensive police infiltrations of a society in history. It directed spy operations against the west.
It lasted from early 1950 until late 1989.
