Simone Russell

Simone Russell is a fictional character on the NBC soap opera Passions. Simone has been on the show since its inception in 1999. She is currently played by Cathy Jenéen Doe since 2004. The character was also played by Lena Cardwell (1999-2001) and Chrystee Pharris (2001-2004). The character is soap opera's first African American lesbian although she was previously seen as straight.

Character History

Simone Russell is the youngest daughter of T.C. Russell and Eve Johnson. Growing up, Simone had always been in the shadow of her older sister Whitney Russell. Simone was best friends with Kay Bennett, often helping Kay with her schemes to win Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald, but lately she has become friends with Kay's younger sister Jessica Bennett and Miguel's younger sister Paloma Lopez-Fitzgerald. Simone and Paloma have repeatedly tried to convince Jessica to divorce her abusive husband Spike Lester.

Simone is currently in a lesbian relationship with a woman named Rae, played by Jossara Jinaro. Her father, who after falling into a deep depression and suffering from alcoholism, eventually forgave her and apologized for his initial prejudice toward her new lifestyle; the rest of her family is attempting to be supportive. Previously she had been involved with Chad Harris, the man that was at one time thought to be her half brother, who was really in love with her sister Whitney. She also briefly dated John Standish the son of David Hastings, who was falsely assumed to be Grace Standish's son and thus the half-brother of Noah, Kay and Jessica.
