Philippine Cyberservices Corridor
The Philippine Cyberservices Corridor is a 600-mile stretch of land in the Philippines, claimed by the government of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to be a source of cyberservices such as business process outsourcing, medical transcription, and the like. Arroyo has been criticized for creating the term to claim credit for the 100,000 workers.
The corridor stretches 600 miles from Baguio in Northern Luzon to Zamboanga in Mindanao and is home to 100,000 call center and BPO agents, who generally speak English as well as Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic. [1]
Call centers have opened in Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Baguio. BPO operations have sprung up in Legaspi and Tacloban. Medical transcription centers have been established in Dumaguete, Davao, and Naga. [2]
