The following is a list of United Nations (WP) resolutions that concern Israel and bordering states such as Lebanon

The United Nations is not a democratic institution, with a permanent bloc of nations that have superior voting rights to all other member nations. Member nations are given turns at a chance to share these superior voting rights.

This enables the United States to regularly vote alone and against international consensus, using its United Nations Security Council veto power to block the passing of many proposed UN Security Council resolutions supporting the PLO and calling for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.[1][2]

The Human Rights Council has passed more resolutions condemning Israel than it has all other states combined;[3] from 1967 to 1989 the Wikipedia:UN Security Council passed 131 United Nations Security Council resolutions directly addressing the Wikipedia:Arab–Israeli conflict.

In early Security Council practice, resolutions did not directly invoke Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. They made an explicit determination of a threat, breach of the peace, or act of aggression, and ordered an action in accordance with Article 39 or 40. Resolution 54 determined that a threat to peace existed within the meaning of Article 39 of the Charter, reiterated the need for a truce, and ordered a cease-fire pursuant to Article 40 of the Charter. Although the phrase "Acting under Chapter VII" was never mentioned as the basis for the action taken, the chapter's authority was being used.[4]

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a number of resolutions saying that the strategic relationship with the United States encourages Israel to pursue aggressive and expansionist policies and practices.[5] The 9th Emergency Session of the General Assembly was convened at the request of the Security Council when the United States blocked efforts to adopt sanctions against Israel.[6]

The United States responded to the frequent criticism from UN organs by adopting the Negroponte doctrine. Similar to the way that US legislators attach unpopular bills onto popular legislation in order to get them passed, Negroponte stated, and the doctrine permanently mandates, that the United States will oppose Security Council resolutions concerning the Israeli–Palestinian conflict that condemn Israel and do not also condemn groups the US has labelled terrorists.
