GayBucuresti
GayBucuresti is an online LGBT portal and news service in the Romanian language. The current website was founded in 2002, as the successor to the iolmessenger.ro portal, the first of its kind in Romania. GayBucuresti.ro provides frequently-updated LGBT news in Romanian, with a focus both on Romanian and worldwide gay issues.
In Romania, due to its high number of registered users, GayBucuresti is often called the "From the Bucharest" (De pe Bucuresti) or "The iOL!" (iOL-ul), referring to the well known website iOL! and the iOL! messenger. Of course not every gay man is registered on GayBucuresti, but GayBucuresti reaches almost every social and professional class and includes people from all walks of life.
Just like general Internet use, the use of GayBucuresti varies depending on age, education level and other criteria. Even politicians are known to use the services of GayBucuresti.
Because the Origin of the Romanians, majority of GayBucuresti's users come from the Romanian-speaking countries Romania and Moldova. However, since the site is also available in English, French, Italian, Russian and Portuguese, the number of users from non-Romanian-speaking countries is constantly increasing.
The increasing popularity of GayBucuresti and other chat and dating websites has had a great impact on the general social behaviour of gay and bisexual men and their subculture. Traditional cruising for sex|cruising areas like parks, truck stop|motorway picnic areas, cottaging|public toilets etc. are nowadays much less busy than they used to be. Dating via the internet reflects a need for more security. Many men prefer to have the opportunity to check out sexual compatibility through online chat|chatting before meeting someone in real life.
At the same time, gay cafés, gay bar|bars, gay bar|clubs, gay bathhouse|saunas etc in traditionally popular gay centres have become less popular in recent years while web services have thrived. There may be no direct correlation between these two trends as other social factors certainly play a role: high prices; an aging population and the increased integration of gays in wider society all play a role. Over the past 9 years the increase in popularity of large scale circuit party|parties has no doubt also had a negative impact on smaller bars and clubs.
Reflecting its gay community|community ethos GayBucuresti also includes a lot of information regarding safe sex|safer sex, coming out, health support as well as links to List of LGBT publications|gay magazines and other List of LGBT-related organizations|community organizations. All these functions are free on GayBucuresti. Unlike most other gay dating websites, users with a free account can send and receive as many messages as they wish.

The GayBucuresti Cinema (iOL! Cinema) is an online database of information about movies, actors, television shows, production crew personnel, and video games with gay themed content. GayBucuresti Cinema launched on March 1, 2006. The GayBucuresti Cinema website is essentially a free site. All of the basic database information is available without registration and without providing any personal information. As one adjunct to data, the GayBucuresti Cinema offers a rating scale which allows users to rate films by choosing one of ten categories in the range 1–5, with each user able to submit one rating. Registered users also have access to "My media," which is a database that can be created by any registered user. GayBucuresti Video Share is a video share website where users can upload, view and share video clips, and was created in Nowember 20, 2006. Some videos are available only to users of age 18 or older (e.g. videos containing potentially offensive content). Related videos, determined by title and tags, appear onscreen to the right of a given video. GayBucuresti Video Share plays back videos limited in both size and quality. The size is limited to pixel dimensions of 320 by 240 and the quality is limited to a bitrate of around 314kbit/s with a frame rate dependent on the uploaded video. The site officially accepts uploaded videos in Windows Media Video|.WMV, Audio Video Interleave|.AVI, QuickTime|.MOV, Moving Picture Experts Group|MPEG and MPEG-4 Part 14|.MP4, formats, and converts into Flash Video|.FLV (Adobe Flash Video) format after uploading.
