Fifth Avenue Vietnam Peace Parade Committee

The Fifth Avenue Vietnam Peace Parade Committee was founded so as to organize for the International Days of Protest that would take place in October 1965. The committee wanted to have a parade down Fifth Avenue in New York City, which was the route most mainstream parades in New York City took. The committee was made up from representatives of a wide range of groups opposed to a war in Vietnam. On October 15, 1965, thousands of people marched down Fifth Avenue in protest of the Vietnam war. The parade was greeted by hecklers who threw eggs and red paint at the marchers.

The committee also organized for the second International Days of Protest of March 1966. On March 26, 1966, thousands of people marched down Fifth Avenue and then held a rally in Central Park.

The committee continued to organize anti-war activities into the 1970's.
