Denis Rancourt

Jump to: navigation, search

Denis Rancourt is the anarchist former tenured physics professor who was fired by the University of Ottawa on March 31, 2009, following a series of conflicts about activism, pedagogy, grading practice, and academic freedom.

Following a failed attempt by the university to shut down his activism course (implemented by "academic squatting") in mid-term in September 2005, the university was forced to apologize for the in-class intervention (see apology) and Rancourt won an arbitration that made the use of social activism for motivating science learning legal in Canada (see annalysis of arbitration hearing by the College and University Employment Law E-Bulletin).
