Cuba at a Crossroads
Cuba at a Cross Roads, the New American Strategy is a highly detailed account of Cuban history, U.S.– Cuba relations and a polemic against the Wikipedia:United States embargo on commerce with Cuba.[1][2][3] Written by American author Daniel Bruno Sanz (aka Daniel Bruno) and published in 2009 by Wikipedia:Booksurge,[3] a division of Amazon, the book’s thesis is that external pressure to force change in Cuba has the effect of entrenching the Castro brothers in power and retarding the evolution of Cuban politics, a view wholly espoused by Wikipedia:Brown University Professor Wikipedia:Sergei Khrushchev, son of the late Wikipedia:Soviet leader Wikipedia:Nikita Khrushchev.[2][4]
"Cuba at a Crossroads reflects Daniel Bruno Sanz's uncommon vision of Cuban development. His book is the first complete and detailed analysis available on the counterproductive and futile U.S. embargo on Cuba."
Dr.Wikipedia:Sergei Khrushchev, is the son of the late Nikita Khrushchev, leader of the Wikipedia:Soviet Union from 1956 to 1964 and whose assistance was crucial to the consolidation of the Cuban Revolution and the rule of Wikipedia:Fidel Castro after 1959. [6]
Content[edit]
Cuba at a Cross Roads, The New American Strategy, is one of the most painstakingly detailed accounts of Cuba-United States relations to date and includes a number of the author’s personal anecdotes. The book does not argue against the embargo on humanitarian grounds just as it rejects arguments for the embargo because of Wikipedia:human rights violations in Cuba. [7][8][9]
Sanz’s position is that the Wikipedia:United States embargo (aka el bloqueo or the blockade) unwittingly assists the government of Cuba to enforce unpopular policies at home by creating a permanent state of emergency that links all internal dissent to foreign Imperialist interference in the country’s internal affairs while simultaneously encouraging Cuba’s best and brightest to take up automatic residency and benefits in the United States rather than to remain on the island where they might influence the outcome of events.[10][11][12]
Circumstantial evidence and subsequent revelations by Wikipedia:Wiki leaks[13] seem to support Sanz's assertion that the government of Cuba is pursuing a policy of keeping the economy closed. The United States embargo furthers this goal.[14][15]
To sum up, Sanz argues that Wikipedia:Fidel Castro is a creature of centuries old Cuban nationalism and that U.S. Cuba policy is foolishly driven by personal ambitions, hatreds and petty rivalries in the Wikipedia:Cuban-American community and across the Wikipedia:Florida Straights instead of the national interest. He urges President Obama to abandon all efforts at "regime change" in Cuba.[16][17][8][18]
The book draws on the work of celebrated Cuban scholar Wikipedia:Fernando Ortiz and is a goldmine of obscure history and factoids about Cuba, including photos of a letter written by an eleven year old Wikipedia:Fidel Castro to President Roosevelt asking for ten dollars.[19][20]
