Communist Workers Party

The Communist Workers Party was created in October 1979 out of the Workers Viewpoint Organization. It had several hundred members.

In North Carolina, Communist Workers Party (CWP) members were organizing textile mills and engaged in anti-racist activities. On November 3, 1979, five CWP members and supporters were killed during a march against the Ku Klux Klan in Greensboro, North Carolina. They were killed by KKK members who were aided by neo-Nazis. There was a lot of evidence pointing to law enforcement collusion with this event. Despite the assassinations being filmed and broadcast over television news, no one was ever convicted on any criminal charges over the murders. The CWP won a civil suit and launched the Greensboro Justice Fund with the award.
