Comic Related is a website that covers a wide range of topics related to comic book collecting, comic movies and just about anything a comic fan might enjoy. The site was launched on September 01, 2004 and currently updates with new content 365 days a year. The site features comic news, press releases, reviews, cover galleries, forums, links (over 1000 and growing) and much, much more. The website, though young, is steeped in comic history dating back over 25 years.

There's a massive staff of two individuals behind the Comic Related website. Charles Moore is the creator and primary contributor of content while Katie Riley helps keep it all on track.

Background in comics / A bit of comic history

Charles made history, at the age of 14 while in the 8th grade, by becoming one of the youngest comic store owners in the nation (see articles in external links). Selling a single box of comics at a local comic convention, Chuck (as everyone referred to him then) earned enough money to pay for the first month's rent in his first comic store in Ironton, Ohio. Obtaining a business license, he made enough in the first month to keep the business alive and it only grew from there.

It was the early 80's and the independent comic boom was well underway and this helped him grow his first comic store into a series of small businesses. During that time, he also had the chance to meet and talk with industry professionals such as Frank Miller, John Byrne and many others as he set up shop at conventions in and around the Ohio area.

Over the next four years, Chuck opened a series of comic stores in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio. The stores, known as Chuck's Comics, were quite successful due in large part to the owner's ability to locate hard to find back issues while providing customers with discounted, bagged and back boarded new comics (which was almost unheard of at the time but is standard in foldering practices today). Chuck's stores were typcially open four days a week. During the other three days he and his father (until he was old enough to drive) traveled the country visiting comic stores acquiring hard to find books for their customers. Their travels took them from cost to coast in search of comics. Regular weekly stops included the Bookie Parlor in Dayton, Ohio, the distribution warehouse in Columbus, Ohio and a little known eclectic store known as Monkey's Retreat (which still operates in Columbus to this day).

Chuck's Comics existed in seven cities including; Ironton (Ohio), New Boston (Ohio), Winchester (Kentucky), Chillicothe (Ohio), Middletown (Ohio), Ashland (Kentucky) and South Shore (Kentucky). The chain of stores and the eventual sale of each business to other entrepreneurs helped Chuck pay for his college education. Chuck, now Charles, has over 25 years experience in and around the comic industry.

Why create the site?

The Comics Related website grew out of an individual's desire to build an on-line area which had the feel of your local, brick and mortar comic store. The site isn't your normal corporate sponsored mega site loaded with capital, behind the scenes investors and all the associated bells and whistles. This site, just like your corner comic store, is run by people who love to talk comics. Our goal, through archiving news content from across the web and across the comic community, is to build an on-line comic information archive which we hope you'll use and enjoy for years to come.

So far, we have been succeeding. Since the website’s launch, we have seen steady growth as comic fans visit the site. In December 2005 alone, 16,947 unique visitors passed through our site which represented 20% growth over November 2005. At its current rate of growth, the site stands poised to become a force in the delivery of Comic Related news and information.
