Atheists of Silicon Valley
Atheists of Silicon Valley (Godless Geeks) is a group of people in and around Mountain View, California who like to debate the merits of atheism compared to religion. Most attendees are ex-Christians, but active Christians sometimes attend. ASV is affiliated with American Atheists. In addition to discussion the meetings often have videos and special guest speakers.
Meetings[edit]
Meetings are on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Their web site contains a News Page of Upcoming Events.
Atheist Valley[edit]
ASV is located at the center of Silicon Valley, where it is estimated that only 10 per cent of people go to church. This is far lower than the 56 percent rate that the Gallup poll shows for the rest of the country. (paraphrased from [1])
Claims to fame[edit]
ASV is listed as 'The Godless Geeks' in the credits for The God Who Wasn't There (at the end of the movie in the full-version DVD). ASV has also been mentioned on Salon.com, the online newsmagazine, [2] and in Metro [3], Silicon Valley's alternative weekly. The President of ASV has also appeared on the San Francisco public-radio interview show "City Visions" [4] and on Fox News's Hannity & Colmes show.
