Adventurism

Adventurism is pursuing reckless, improvised, experimental international policies for the sake of opportunistic gain. The further from established policy and legal precedent, the more it is adventurism. The term is more commonly used today as a euphemism for military operations, almost exclusively by the United States, which are illegal under international law and according to the the Nuremberg trials (WP), which found that attack upon a sovereign nation was a high crime. Since none dare oppose the US, it is felt necessary to sugarcoat accusations of illegality. Also used today, the sense of operations being destructive to foreign countries or their people, Patriotic Correctness requiring that only one's own country's interest be served.

Historically, countries pursuing foreign wars of dubious merit or which have little chance of success have often been accused of adventurism by opponents.
