The 2012 Romney video leaks, released on September 17 and 18, 2012, was a video leaked by Wikipedia:Mother Jones that showed 2012 Presidential candidate Wikipedia:Mitt Romney speaking to a group of donors at a private conference on May 17, 2012.[1] The video was taken at hedge fund manager Marc Leder's house in Wikipedia:Boca Raton. During the video Romney accused 47% of the American population as "people who pay no income tax" and "who will vote for the president no matter what". [2] The private fundraiser, at which the video was filmed, was a $50,000 per person event.[3]

During the fundraiser Romney identified 47% of the population of paying no income tax. The full quote said:

Romney was also quoted in the video of saying that the Palestinians are "committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel".[4]

Response[edit]

President and incumbent Barack Obama stated in an interview with Wikipedia:David Letterman that "[m]y expectation is if you want to be president, you've got to work for everybody, not just for some".[5] In response to the speech, Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat said "[o]nly those who want to maintain the Israeli occupation will claim the Palestinians are not interested in peace".[6]
