service model

Service model is the model of contemporary labour unions which are run like an organization that is simply trading union dues for union services, such as grievance handling and contract negotiations. It is significantly less powerful than an organizing union. This is because a service union inadvertantly takes the power away from where the only power in a union is, its members.
