It is a common practice that parents force their children to eat in the company of themselves. That is most often done for the meal of dinner, though it is often done for other meals as well. The purpose of that is to associate the minor's pleasure from the food with the company of their parents, so as to give the false impression that all pleasure comes from the parents.

There are also cases in which adults are subject to forced communal eating. That is common in religious cults.
