For other usages, see sun.

The Sun (sometimes referred to as Sol) is the name of the star at the center of our solar system. The Sun is about 4.59 billion years old, which is about 5 million years older than the Earth.

Humans know more about the Sun then any other star because the Sun is the closest star to the Earth. The sun is a mere 93 million miles from Earth (1 AU) which is equivalent to 8.31 light minutes. This means that it takes 8.31 minutes for light from the sun to reach the Earth. The closest Star to the Sun is Proxima Centauri which is 4.22 light years, or 24.76 trillion miles away from the Sun. The Sun is one star of over 70 Sextillion stars in the observable Universe.

The Sun is a G2 Star which will continue hydrogen fusioin for another 5 billion years before it turns into a Red Giant and the ulimately a White Dwarf. The Sun is too small to go Supernova, as only stars that have masses of atleast 9 times the sun go supernova. The Sun is a middle-aged, mid-sized star.
