Proxy war

A proxy war is a war in which two rivals intervene in a regional conflict and take opposing sides. Usually proxy wars do not involve full-scale war between the two rivals, only the funding of enemy troops or the deployment of combat advisors. The Vietnam War would be a notable example of a proxy war.
