Mohandas K. Gandhi (also Mahatma Gandhi) was the leader of non-violent pacifist resistance of Indian people to the occupation by Great Britain. He has advocated non-cooperation, a tactic that later was adopted by the philosophy of Leo Tolstoi and Martin Luther King, Jr. Contrary to the popular opinion he did not promote passive resistance or apathy to oppression.
