Australian Idol

Gatehau was in his last year of study at Ashcroft High School, doing his HSC when he first auditioned for Idol. When questioned by Mark Holden if he could undertake this Idol journey, his mother was brought in to back him up, she gave the decision to Joseph on whether he wanted to continue his HSC or continue on in Idol, Joseph chose Idol and advanced to the top 12.

Gatehau was eliminated from the show on September 11, after receiving the lowest amount of votes from home viewers.
