Glasnost

Glasnost (Russian for openness) was a policy initiated by Mikhail Gorbachev which limited censorship of the press in the Soviet Union. Ironically, the subsequent heightened nationalism led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Gorbachev's downfall.
