The American Workers Party (AWP) was involved in the 1934 Toledo Auto-lite strike. The AWP, which was also involved with the Unemployed League, encouraged unemployed workers to walk on the Auto-lite picket line. With much of Toledo's workers unemployed at the time, this helped win the strike.

In December of 1934, the AWP merged with the Communist League of America, a Trotskyist group, to form the Workers Party of the United States.
