Culture of discussion in anarchist contexts

We criticize the common of communication at group meetings and want to show (and exercise) alternatives, how a lively, authentic communication could look like, which is oriented towards the needs of the participants. (ibu)

anarchist decision making

We do often experience that in anarchist contexts all people are declared to be responsible, but nobody really feels responsible. We also experience that all want to make a decision, but it does not happen, because there is no method of decision making (consensus in various forms, ...). The other way round we also see, that there is plenty discussion about questions which nobody really cares about. - We want to ask for the reasons, and how we can change this situation copllectively. (habitation) utopias and their realization

In the Vienna habitation cafe we are talking about our visions of a different life, especially regarding habitation. For the emergence of new housing projects it is decisive that several people with similar visions come together. Therefore we want to use the time at the a-camp for getting to know new people and each other better. To talk about our utopias and needs, to learn from experiences of others and it make plans.

The camp as an experiment with freedom

We understand the camp as an experiment, hoe a differentlife in a liberated society couls look like. Crucial for thei is not political propaganda or external representation, but a different assocuiation between us, which makes the better life perceptible. - It ois not enough to demand a better life; we must change ourselves and mutually, in order to not reproduce those perceptive, congitive and behavioural patterns which dominate the mainstream and its symbolically confined subcultures.

The workshop shall extend throughout the time of the camp and be a forum for coming together in smaller groups (4-7 people), in order to exchange personal experiences at the camp, to share ardor, frustration, wishes, own weaknesses and communication problems of all kinds, to write texts, be insurrective, collectively emancipate from standardized patterns, relax, reducing angst of all kinds, letting creativity flow freely.

We would find it noice, if you could participate in writing a text already before the camp, which tries to transcend the borders from which fantasy commonly suffers. The text in german language; please add english contributions at the bottom.

An Introduction to the‭ “‬Value Critique‭”‬.‭ ‬Or:‭ ‬why studying Marx is‭ ‬nowadays‭ (‬again‭) ‬more essential than reading Bakunin

This is going to be a theoretical workshop‭; ‬we want to‭ ‬convey knowledge but also leave space for discussions among the participants.‭

We intend to present the Marxian‭ “‬Kritik der Politischen ÖKonomie‭” (‬critique of the political economy‭) ‬in four separate blocks that will deal with the most important aspects of Marx‭’ ‬theory.‭ ‬Furthermore,‭ ‬we want to give you an idea of how we believe that this‭ ‬approach can be expanded into a‭ ‬more general‭ ‬theory of society,‭ ‬covering aspects like modern ideologies and especially the analysis of our society as‭ ‬a‭ ‬patriarchal system as conceived by Roswitha Scholz.‭

The duration and precise schedule is not yet worked out‭ – ‬this will be partly decided by the actual participants.‭ ‬In any case we want to warn you:‭ ‬it will be an intensive workshop requiring some effort.‭ ‬But we are sure that it’s worth‭ ‬it‭ ;‬-‭)

Comment:‭ ‬For all the non German speakers‭ ‬-‭ ‬the presentations will be held in German,‭ ‬but we intend to organize a simultaneous translation.

Living with children

Looking after children shall be organized collectively at the camp-site, so that the work will not - as usual and as in previus years at the camp - be the responsibility of a few (mainly the immediate attachment figures, i.e. the nuclear family). There will be a meeting at the camp-site on Friday, 2008-07-18, at 16:00, to coordinatize and talk about the details.
