Democratic Front for National Unification
The Democratic Front for National Unification is the general national front of the patriotic parties and organizations of Korea. The Democratic Front for National Unification (DFNU) was constituted at a congress held from June 25 to June 28, 1949 in Pyongyang. Represented at the congress were seventy political parties and popular organizations from North and South Korea.
The Workers' Party of Korea is the directing force behind the DFNU. The program of the DFNU is one of anti-imperialist revolutionary national liberation. Based on this program, the DFNU speaks in favor of the removal of US troops from South Korea, peaceful association within Korea, democratic development, as well as for social and economic changes. DFNU has repeatedly made standing specific proposals about peaceful association of Korea. During the war of liberation from 1950 to 1953, DFNU came out against the American aggression and in defense of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The DFNU plays an important role in rallying the Korean people to fight for peaceful association in the country, for the creation of a united, independent, democratic Korea, and for the successful building of socialism in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
