symetrism
"Symetrism" is the name for a newly proposed political ideology based on the concept of Syncretism. It attempts to join aspects of direct democracy, representative democracy, socialism and capitalism. It is unkown who came up with Symetrism but we know they are related to Syn (company).
Beliefs/Theories
Symetrists consider themselves to be an opt in government. They claim that everything in their government should be optional. For instance one would be able to choose what ones taxes went towards. This will allow people to have a level of control over their lives while still maintaining a security net.
Symetrists believe that healthcare should not be completely socialized, rather it should be drastically subsidized. They claim this would allow the competition of capitalism to thrive while at the same time ensuring that the less fortunate are not without healthcare. They also wish to have all necessities subsidized such as housing, education, food...all things considered to be a necessity.
They also believe in a society which holds anonymity and privacy up as virtues. They claim that anonymity creates equality while privacy creates freedom. The reasoning behind these statements are as follows; anonymity blocks judgement based on race, gender, etc thus affording all a certain level of equality (best exemplified through the internet) whereas privacy allows one to be oneself at the utmost level, which in essence is freedom (if you know no ones watching you you'll be free to be yourself).
Symetrists also promote the concept of a flat income tax. For instance one person earning $10,000 a year pays a flat tax of %10 ($1,000) another person earning $100,000 would pay %10 as well ($10,000).
Structure
Every year a group of 101 people are picked (based on their age and name)to be electors. They will be able to vote (from their homes) on all the issues affecting their region as well as national issues. If they fail to reach a conclusion with over %80 majority it is passed on to the representatives.
Each locality (city, town, etc) is ascribed 7 representatives. Each representative is an authority on one of the following topics;Education, Energy,Psychology/Sociology, Environmental issues, Healthcare, child welfare and Economics. These 7 representatives are responsible for voting on the issues related to A. their locality and B. their topic of authority.
Each state operates under the same 7 representative system the only difference being that the issues they vote on (while relevant to their specific authority) are national issues.
The nation will have 7 representatives each based on the 7 authority system. They will oversee the representative aspect of this democracy.
Criticisms of Symetrism
- Symetrism has been labelled overly idealist by some. This Label has been made partially because in order for symetrism to work properly it relies on a myriad of variables as well as making certain assumptions (the main assumption is that people would be willing to pay much more in taxes in exchange for actionable transparent services).
- The suffrage in not universal, unlike the vast majority of modern democracies.
- Candidates cannot be elected unless they have a Ph.D, which may lead to pernicious types of political control by universities.
- Flat income tax does not allow redistribution of wealth and it does not stimulate large-capital owners to make investments. Redistribution is a basic aspect of any system claiming to be socialist.
