Paul Celan (born 1920 November 23 in Romania) was a poet, lecturer, influenced by French Surrealism and Symbolism. Lived in France, wrote in German. Received Georg Büchner Prize. Translated such writers as Cocteau, Michaux, Mandelstam, Ungaretti, Pessoa, Rimbaud, Valéry, Char, du Bouchet, and Dupin.
