The United Nations is an international peacekeeping organization headquartered in New York City. It is charged with the maintenance of peace and protection of the rights of the member states. Almost every widely recognized sovereign state is a member, with a few notable exceptions[1]. The most important agency of the United Nations is the Security Council.
