The Hundred Years' War was a long conflict between France and England, from 1337 to 1453. It began with spectactular English successes and territorial gains, but ended with England pushed entirely off the European mainland, save the small town of Calais. The war is notable for introducing new military tactics and some of the first standing armies in Europe since the Roman Empire.
