Operation Barbarossa was the German invasion of the Soviet Union. It lasted from June 22, 1941 to January 7, 1942. While Germany had early successes, by winter they had not yet reached Moscow and the Soviets began to push them back. Nonetheless, it resulted in a massive German victory.
