The Committee for International Peace (CIP) is a non-profit peace organization started in Denton, Texas in 2004.
History[edit]
CIP was started in Denton, Texas in 2004 as part of the University of North Texas' annual International Week. It quickly outgrew these beginnings, however, and is registered as a not-for-profit with Denton County. CIP is also affiliated with UNT's Peace Studies program, the first such program in the Southwestern United States.
Events[edit]
CIP presents annual roundtable discussions on timely topics of peace, featuring noteworthy academics, politicians, and organizations such as Amnesty International. It has co-sponsored a conference with Peace Action Denton, organized a street party, and released a CD. It has also organized fasting in a "Hunger-a-Thon," raising funds for the U.N. Refugee Agency in order to bring attention to the issue of hunger in Darfur, Sudan and Niger.
Expansion[edit]
CIP is expanding rapidly with members presently in Germany, Bahrain, and New Jersey.
