Sapir-Whorf hypothesis.
The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, proposed by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Whorf, states that the way one perceives the world is profoundly influenced by ones language. For example, in America, cucumbers are percieved as sexual objects because of the sexual innuendo surrounding the name.
